Select Teams Fall 2007
|

|
Congratulations to Raiders teams that have started the season off in strong fashion. Above, the U16 boys coached by John Regan and the U14 boys coached by Brett Phillips won their divisions at the Lower Alabama Invitational on August 17-18. Left, the U15 girls coached by Michael Wallace won their division at the NASA Classic on August 25-26. Well done, everyone! |
Limited openings are still available
for most Boys and Girls select teams.
TASA's Select teams are tryout-based. Nevertheless, our program offers a great deal of flexibility for players of various skill levels. Players who are somewhat new to the sport, but who are motivated to improve and are seriously interested in soccer, are encouraged to train with teams with the goal of strengthening their skills and becoming full participants. At the other end of the skill spectrum, our most serious, experienced and dedicated players will be provided with TASA's quality training as well as opportunities to compete at very high levels through our "College Bound" program (see below, under General Plans). In between these two extremes, we offer all players a full season of great training and tournament/playdate experiences.

General Plans:
The focus of the 2007-8 year will be continuing the philosophy, "Players
first, winning second."
All teams will register with US Club Soccer, enabling the coaching staff to have flexible rosters rather than having
players assigned specifically to only one team.
Players are encouraged to practice with more than one team. This should be discussed with your manager or coach.
The "competitive cauldron"
model will be utilized at practices, to encourage players to put their best efforts into every practice.
Competitive events will be scheduled by the club rather than
by individual teams. This will enable the directors to
organize staff and players to maximize opportunities. Additionally,
travel time and expense should be minimized.
Training opportunities in addition to regular practices will be available to all players.
Players who are capable of playing for older-age teams, and who
demonstrate appropriate commitment and work ethic, will be given
the opportunity to do so.
A limited number of players will be identified for participation in our College Bound program. This program is a cooperative relationship between TASA and other quality clubs with high-level teams, where our players are invited to try out and earn the opportunity to play in selected prestigious events.
