ABOUT TASA...
TASA was formed over 20 years ago as a way to get soccer started in local high schools. We’re proud that now both Thomasville High School and Thomas County Central High School both regularly win region championships in the sport. And, we’re proud that TASA is now a significant contributor to the development of soccer athletes throughout southwest Georgia. However—TASA has become much more than just a feeder program for high school soccer.
Our focus has shifted to the individual player who loves the sport of soccer. We want these players to receive top-level training, and to have as many opportunities to advance in the sport as they desire. Whether the athlete is incredibly gifted or just loves to play; and whether the athlete hopes to attend college on a soccer scholarship or prefers to include soccer as one of several important activities, we want to provide what he or she seeks.
One of TASA’s greatest strengths lies with our skilled coaching directors. John Regan and Michael Wallace have both played and coached high-level soccer for many years, and we believe that they are as capable and competent as any directors at any club. More importantly, both these men set the highest personal standards for themselves and for their players. They are excellent role models who do not compromise their integrity, and they place far greater value on soccer as an opportunity for teaching significant life lessons than as a way to compile impressive win-loss records. They are both directly involved in coaching various teams, and they also set curriculum and supervise qualified staff coaches who assist with other teams.
If you have a child aged 7-11 who enjoys soccer or is interested in learning the sport, we encourage you to consider our Academy. The Academy emphasizes skill development in a fun, positive atmosphere. While players are always encouraged to improve, and while there is appropriate competition to keep the players excited and interested, there is never pressure and mistakes are never criticized. Commitment and interest in the sport are much more important for these players than athletic ability. We do not “cut” players and we provide extra training opportunities for those who are motivated and interested.
Older players can consider our Select teams. We have try-outs for these teams, but we will place interested, committed new players on teams as long as they are willing to take advantage of opportunities to improve their skills. On the other end of the spectrum, players with outstanding skills who have been training with us for several years will be given opportunities to participate in prestigious events on high-level teams with other clubs. In general, Select teams offer a full season of training and competitive events where players can have some flexibility with their degree of involvement.
TASA provides training for young players (7 and below) in our Smidgets program, where even these youngest players receive training from skilled, enthusiastic, and positive coaches.
We also encourage you to take advantage of our camps. Both the Junior Elite and Senior Elite Summer camps provide a good introduction to our fall programs, enabling the player to get to know the staff and vice versa. Our Soccer Madness Holiday Camp, held over the Christmas holidays, is a way to stay active and work on skills between the fall and spring seasons.
If you have any questions, please contact either Coach Regan (boys) or Coach Wallace (girls) or the individual team manager of the team that interests you, or email us at tasa@tasasoccer.com.
